22-year-old man commits suicide in Anambra
A 22-year-old man, Chika Alex-Chukwuezie has committed suicide in Ubaekwem community in Ihiala Local government area of Anambra state.

The deceased, of Umuanasa clan, reportedly hung on a family mango tree for yet to be ascertained reason.

The Nation gathered that the deceased until his death was an active youth in the Umuezekwe political ward of Ihiala LGA.

A family member who preferred anonymity said the act might not be unconnected to spiritual liberation defect, due to the reoccurring suicide incidents that plague the family.

He said, “He was a single unemployed young man who had completed his SSS exams, with the hope to excel in business after schooling.

“One of his uncles also committed suicide at youthful age decades ago.

“The family had to subject itself to spiritual cleansing to avert recurrence of the unfortunate incident.”

The Nation further learnt that the body of the deceased has been thrown into the thick forest according to Igbo traditional rights.

“Efforts are ongoing to bring in traditionalists who will cutoff the orange tree and sanctify the compound,” a source added.

Police Public Relation officer in the state, Harunna Muhammed, confirmed the incident.

He said investigation was on to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

BALLOT BOX

Nigeria is a country where corruption is the order of the day. There has never been any election that has been conducted free and fairly. In all general elections conducted so far, election Ballot papers are always snatch by political thugs. Since many days for the  thief and and one day for the owner the President has now given the command to the military to shot anyone found snatching ballot papers in the upcoming presidential general election come 23 of February 2019.

ARMY: We can't disobey the president order.

Citing Court of Appeal judgment banning military from election duties, PDP cautions COAS not to drag Army into politics

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, Wednesday accused the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, of inciting the military to disobey President Muhammadu Buhari’s lawful orders, saying this is an unthinkable proposition in the military.
The president had told his All Progressives Congress (APC) party leaders at a meeting on Monday that he had asked the military and the police to deal ruthlessly with ballot box snatchers, saying miscreants who attempt to disrupt Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections would do so at the expense of their lives.
Buhari’s statement received searing attacks from opposition parties’ leaders, one of them Atiku, who at an emergency meeting of the PDP leadership, advised the Army not to obey unlawful orders.
But Buratai took issues with Atiku Wednesday and demanded that the PDP presidential candidate withdraws his advice which he said was tantamount to incitement.
“It is unfortunate to hear persons who are aspiring to rule this country again inciting the army to disobedience,” the army chief said, adding: “We have consistently stated our position in the political dispensation to remain neutral and apolitical.”
He added: “However, direct and public incitement of the Nigerian Military against democracy and constituted civil authority will not be tolerated. I request such persons to withdraw this inciting statement.”
The PDP quickly rose to the defence of its candidate last night in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, warning the army chief not to drag the troops into politics.
Buratai, who spoke at a meeting with principal staff officers, and military commanders at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, however, said the military remained apolitical, warning that incitement would not be tolerated.
He said: “Let me re-emphasise loud and clear, that the Nigerian Army is a professional army. The foundation of military professionalism is discipline and without discipline an army cannot stand.
“One of our core values is loyalty to constituted authority. Loyalty must be 100 per cent. I shall leave you in no doubt as to our resolve to bequeath a professionally responsive army to Nigeria and Nigerians.”
He warned that officers who are not given to loyalty should resign before the election.
He added: “Should any officer or soldier have doubts as to his loyalty to the Nigerian state as presently constituted, such a person has up to February 22, 2019 to resign. There is no room for indiscipline or disobedience to lawful orders in the Nigerian Army today.”
He said those seeking to undermine democracy should be regarded as enemies of democracy.
Buratai told the officers: “I wish to first remind all of you that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable. Hence those who seek to undermine our democracy by interfering in our electoral process must be seen as enemies of Nigeria and dealt with appropriately.
“Our role is aptly captured in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and we must defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity as well as act in aid of civil authority when called upon to do so.
“Therefore, commanders must work with all stakeholders, interest groups and agencies to avert any act by any individual, groups or entities that seek to undermine our democratic process.”
Buratai noted that electoral thuggery, ballot box snatching and illegal possession of electoral materials, are acts designed to mar elections.
He warned commanders not to hobnob with politicians, restrict movements within their areas of responsibility and conduct extensive patrols while suspicious persons and vehicles are to be searched.
He directed commanders to deal decisively with any electoral crime or action that would be inimical to national security.

EFCC: Atiku blast EFCC for allowing Buhari to acquire Keystone Etisalat

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has berated the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Atiku’s anger came down on anti-graft agency for “failing to investigate how Alhaji Isa Funtua, a close ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, acquired Keystone Bank and 9Mobile (formerly known Etisalat).”
The former Vice President in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications, Phrank Shaibu, pointed out that “the EFCC has failed to investigate the acquisition of the bank and telecommunications company because of Alhaji Funtua’s closeness to President Buhari.”
The statement said, “It is not surprising that the EFCC has suddenly become prostrate and bluntly refused to investigate the acquisition of Keystone Bank and 9Mobile, which have been widely adjudged to be fraudulent, if not out rightly criminal.
“The EFCC, like many other agencies under the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government has once again displayed partisanship.
“More importantly, the said Isa Funtua has been known to be a major player in the Presidency whose influence and reach has been less than salutary.
“A recent picture showing the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr Godwin Emefiele bowing to Alhaji Funtua which recently went viral is proof enough of the stature of the President’s ally. The EFCC’s refusal to act therefore follows a familiar narrative”, he stated.
Atiku continued, “While we hold on to the piece of evidence that we have, it is no longer in doubt that underhand dealings took place in the acquisition of Keystone Bank and 9Mobile.
“The part played by the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), both agencies of government have been widely reported and not controverted. The days of playing the ostrich by the Presidency are over. No more hiding for them”, he added.
He referred the presidency to trending online reports which, according to him, “detailed how Alhaji Funtua reportedly bought over the bank and telecom outfit with funds provided by AMCON, whose Chief Executive Officer is a son in-law to the President’s friend.
“Considering that the EFCC and other related agencies would not act as a result of partisanship to the ruling APC, the only hope at this stage is the National Assembly which we urge should take up the gauntlet.
“The National Assembly as representatives of the people is the last hope. We cannot allow the looting and criminal acquisition of our collective patrimony.
“They plan to steal more if President Buhari wins a second term
